The 6th of June marks the 80th anniversary of D-Day, a pivotal moment during World War II. On that day in 1944, Allied forces launched Operation Overlord, the largest amphibious invasion in history. More than 150,000 troops landed on five beaches in Normandy, aiming to liberate northwest Europe from German occupation1. To commemorate this historic event, the BBC is airing live and historic programming across TV, BBC iPlayer, Radio, and BBC Sounds. The national commemorative event will be hosted by Academy Award-winning Dame Helen Mirren and will celebrate the joint efforts of the UK, Commonwealth, and Allied troops in preparing for this decisive campaign2.
