Elie Wiesel (1928-2016) was a Romanian-born writer and professor. As a Holocaust survivor, he later lived in France and the United States. He recounted his experiences from the Auschwitz and Buchenwald concentration camps when he wrote NIGHT in 1960. In 1986, he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
