Let’s take a nostalgic trip back to the 1960s and explore some of the foods that were popular during that time:
- Spam Fritters: These crispy fritters made from canned Spam were a common comfort food.
- Salmon Sandwiches: Simple but satisfying, salmon sandwiches were often enjoyed.
- Tinned Fruit with Evaporated Milk: A sweet treat, tinned fruit (like peaches or pineapple) paired with evaporated milk was a staple.
- Fish on Fridays: Many families followed the tradition of having fish on Fridays.
- Ham Salad for High Tea: Ham salad sandwiches were often served during afternoon tea.
- Tomato Ketchup and Brown Sauce: These condiments added flavor to otherwise plain dishes.
- Heinz Salad Cream: Used as a dressing for summer salads.
- Chinese Cuisine: The late 1950s and 1960s saw an influx of Chinese restaurants, bringing new flavors to British cuisine.
Items 1 & 4 were two of my favourites though I was also partial to some Tomato/brown sauce
