Ray Reardon, often nicknamed “Dracula” due to his distinctive widow’s peak hairstyle, was a legendary Welsh snooker player. He dominated the sport in the 1970s, winning the World Snooker Championship six times between 1970 and 19781. Reardon was known for his strategic play and calm demeanor, which helped him become one of the most successful players of his era.
Before turning professional, Reardon worked as a coal miner and later as a police officer1. His career in snooker saw him achieve numerous accolades, including being the first player to be ranked world number one when the rankings were introduced in the 1976-77 season1. He held this position for five years and regained it in 1982.
Reardon also played a significant role in mentoring Ronnie O’Sullivan, helping him win his second World Championship in 20041. Sadly, Ray Reardon passed away on July 19, 2024, at the age of 91
